Principal Flute
Kate studied flute at the Royal Manchester College of Music, launching a busy career as a freelance player, appearing with many leading orchestras, opera companies and chamber groups.
Kate is Principal Flute with Britten Sinfonia and the highly acclaimed Haffner Wind Ensemble, whose members form the principal wind section of Britten Sinfonia. She is also co-Principal Flute with the English Chamber Orchestra. Her recording with Britten Sinfonia of Mozarts Flute Concerto K.313 was described by Norman Lebrecht in The Daily Telegraph as the finest I have heard from British soloists in a decade. Her most recent recording with Britten Sinfonia was Mozarts Concerto for Flute and Harp.
Despite the demands of a busy playing schedule, Kate Hill has managed to keep up a regular commitment to teaching, which she has always enjoyed. She was Professor of Flute at the Royal Northern College of Music for ten years, and taught for nine years at Chethams School in Manchester. She is now a Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
